September Development Update

September has been a productive month for the Nestables team, with development focusing on a variety of different areas. Balance work, bug fixes and gameplay polish have been the focus.

Development Progress

Improved Building Costs

The cost for constructing a building now depends on the textures used and therefore, the required resources for construction. Some textures/building materials are considered higher tier and use higher level materials to build (like bricks, glass and iron) and thus contribute more to the overall quality. Over the coming month, we will be implementing additional research topics to link in with the building system.

Research Topic Updates

Research topics now “passively” unlock content, like seeds, recipes, food ingredients, tea foundations, tea flavors, cooking tools, toys and many more. Researching additional farming plots will now only unlock 1 additional plot per level. Farming plot level is now shared across the entire Nest, meaning that any Nestable can research the topic to add an additional plot.

Food Balancing and New Tea Flavours

The time taken to cook food has increased significantly. Cooking time is now roughly proportional to the total hunger it regenerates. Three new tiers of tea flavours have been added, one for each cooking station. Previously, tea flavours were only available in the dryer. This change has increased the number of tea flavors 4-fold, from 19 to 76.

Prepared food now provides a tea like effects for their duration. While hunger regeneration from multiple foods stack, only one effect will be applied. However, food effects will still stack with regular tea effects.

Efinity Integration

As we mentioned last month, early work has begun on assessing how we will implement Efinity into Nestables. This will eventually allow us to transfer across the existing assets on the Ethereum network to a much faster and cheaper blockchain. Efinity is currently in Alpha and we are working our way through Enjin’s documentation to understand how best to integrate the system with Nestables.

Currently, the system can mint up to 150 different assets in one transaction and distribute them to different wallets. While there is no limit on the number of items that can be minted at once, each Nestable is a unique NFT. Therefore, depending on costs, we could mint new Nestables to the blockchain as soon as a new player joins or, wait until a large number of new players have joined and send them all in one transaction. Aspects like the wallet linking will also need to be updated so that users can access any Founder’s Nestables or wearables that they currently own.

Security is also a key concern. There are a variety of different options available for running the wallet daemon which we are also exploring.

Offline Progress Report

More work has been done this month on the offline progress report. It will now show a summary for areas researched and changes in affection between Nestables doing the same activity.

We are excited to keep you as a community informed of our development progress. Until the next post, you can stay tuned with our progress via our Telegram & Twitter and don’t forget to clap if you have liked what you have read above!
