The festive season is fast approaching! November has flown past and significant progress has been made on Nestables. Enjin are currently bidding for a Polkadot Parachain slot (more info in this update) which will form a critical part of Nestables being free-to-play.

Development Progress

Introducing Cupcake Trees!

Everyone loves cupcakes, well at least we hope you do. We have introduced a new tree into Nestables this month — the Cupcake Tree.

Turning concept to reality!

You will be able to plant cupcake trees and harvest them like normal produce.

They will make for a tasty treat ingame for your Nestable!

Wood Types

Back in August, we talked about the different wood types that have been added to the game since the pre-alpha. Maple, Birch, Cherry and Fir now join the Pine wood type. The wood chopping station will now change models depending on the biome you are in to reflect the wood type that will be collected.

Tea Making

Coding work for the tea making system has started this month. This is a fairly complex aspect where there are numerous options for the player to explore given the open nature of this gameplay aspect. Currently, we estimate there are around 10 million potential tea recipes.

We will have more info next month on how the tea system works in detail.

Progress Report UI

We have shown some images before of the progress report that will be shown to players when they log back into the game. This log will update you on everything that your Nestables have been doing while you are offline, and their activities and behaviours are controlled via our AI system.

Over the past month and a bit, we have been working on UI for this system.

It has taken quite a while as there is a large amount of information that we have wanted to condense and simplify so that everyone can understand what has happened.

The screen above gives you an overview of the Nestables that are in the Nest. Clicking on a Nestable will then bring up more info on the right side.

You can then get further information on the resources that have been collected by the Nestable during your time offline.

Bug Fixes and Polish

We have continued this month to fix bugs in the beta build and start to polish different areas of the gameplay. These included:

  1. Implemented updates for debug UI
  2. Fixed issues with mushrooms spawning in an incorrect biome and increased spawn chance
  3. Various UI fixes (fixing scroll behaviours, dressup close button update, funds not properly displaying in planting UI, etc.. )
  4. Checked and confirmed that buying seeds works from planting UI All above is included in latest build, following not yet, since it is done today.
  5. Various usability fixes (swapped exit and settings button, planting UI now remembers last used tab, fix issue with tools button audio overriding muted sfx setting)

Efinity Crowdloan

Have you heard about Efinity? Efinity is a next-generation, cross-chain network for non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Or more simply, Efinity is critical for Nestables to be free-to-play.

Efinity will be built upon the Polkadot network and for this to happen, Enjin who are developing Efinity, need something called a Parachain. A Parachain is a data structure specific to applications that can be validatable by validators of the Relay Chain. Relay chains are the core of the Polkadot network, responsible for maintaining security, consensus, and cross-chain interoperability.

In order to get this Parachain, Enjin needs your help! Polkadot is auctioning off Parachain slots. To support Enjin, you can contribute DOT. In exchange you will get EFI!
